> Alcohol & Drug-Related Birth Defects

This May, Community Health Charities joins the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) and their national network of affiliates in educating people, especially women, about the dangers of consuming alcohol and using drugs during pregnancy. Newborns can come into the world with severe birth defects. The reality is harsh and sad. NCADD believes children deserve better!

Children’s Tumor Foundation (formerly National Neurofibromatosis Foundation)
1-in-3,000 children suffer from Neurofibromatosis (NF), a genetic disorder that causes tumors throughout the body. CTF sponsors critical research, public awareness and patient support services.

 

  

Staff Sergeant Mark Thompson convinced the Army that having type-1 diabetes should not keep him from serving in Iraq. Thompson, 28, is an Iowa native. He has been married for nine years and has a son, Kyle, who is two years old. He has always had something of a travel bug, and it was this desire to see the world that inspired Thompson to join the Army. That, and the stories he heard from his college roommate -- an older student who had served in the Vietnam War.
